Wanted to share a little more info and confirmation on what I have
discovered.

I booted off one of my old Ubuntu Hardy Desktop CDs, mounted the
Interpid hard drives so I could get to my scripts and configs.
Installed DNS/DHCP services, copied over my configs, loaded everything
up including my firewall script and everything works!!!

So, this is simply a matter of something is different in Intrepid, as it
does work perfectly fine in Hardy.
