Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Apparently with no reason (I was using firefox) the screen freezes
filled with a mostly black pixelized pattern. After some "flashing"
trying to automatically restart the server, it ends up to the message
telling "ubuntu is running in low graphics".

Switching to a shell prompt to restart gdm or with startx isn't working.
Following the option to start in low graphics right after the message
telling "ubuntu is running in low graphics" takes me to the gdm login
screen.

Please sorry if I've made some mistakes and let me know how to help
more.
