If you press alt+f2 you can run plasma from the box that appears.
Could you install kdebase-workspace-dbg and press "See details" in the box that
shows up reporting the crash? If you could paste the info from that bug here
it'd be a great help. You may also would want to consider waiting until KDE
4.2.0 is released in a day or so to see if it still happens there.
