Okay, lets see if we can do some troubleshooting.

1. Inactivate all pidgin accounts and close pidgin.
2. Run
 pidgin --debug > pidgin-debug.log
in a terminal and reproduce. 
3. Back at your desktop, please attach your pidgin-debug.log and 
/var/log/syslog to this report.
