Emmanuel Rodriguez reporting the bug in the first place should not mean that his opinion that doing without the option may be OK should have more weight than those of us who need the option and whose acceptance of ubuntu is impeded by it.
If his solution is implemented and this bug closed then I will open a new bug report noting that Gnu grep is broken. Gnu grep is a package available on most linuxes and it has a standard manpage.
