Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

On Ubuntu 8.10, Firefox 3.0.5 (and also previous versions if I remember
correctly) has the following behaviour when I paste lines of text onto a
textarea:

Although the pasted text appears normally on the textarea, when I submit
the form, every line feed (also known as return or enter or "\r\n")
contained in the textarea is submitted duplicated. I mean, "\r\n"
becomes "\r\n\r\n" in the posted form.

The bug occurs with text copied from gedit or Geany, but not from Kate.
In any of these cases, the text is shown correctly on the textarea --
don't expect to see anything wrong in the browser -- the bug occurs on
submission of the form. What is wrong is the text that reaches the web
server.

I have the firefox-3.0-gnome-support package installed on my system. I
mention this because gedit and Geany are Gnome editors and the problem
depends on copying from them.

You can paste with the middle mouse button or with the keyboard (ctrl-
insert, shift-insert). It doesn't matter.

For months I suspected the bug was on my web server. But having tested
this with the Opera browser (which works fine), I have determined this
bug belongs to Firefox.

This bug is very important because the user sees the text correctly on
screen, submits the form and rightfully assumes everything is green. But
the data is actually corrupted.

** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
