I had the same problem (although on debian lenny), and it seems cups-related.
I didn't have access to the cups webinterface ('403 Forbidden' on
http://localhost:631).
After tweaking /etc/cups/cupsd.rc i was again allowed to see printers etc. and
do configuration as root. AND PRINT FROM FF! :-)
