I see this same problem. It doesn't happen when dragging with my mouse. I don't see anything unusual when I running synclient -m 1 simultaneously with reproducing this anomaly--the coordinates reported don't jump.
I found that the problem goes away if I disable the compiz plugin called Snapping Windows in compizconfig-settings-manager (ccsm). I was also able to use gconf-editor to disable it LarryGrover and kennydude--are you running compiz with this plugin active?
