This situation has happened to me twice.  I'm using GNOME, Amarok 2, and
I have update-manger set to check for updates but not to install them.
I have the same symptom with the thousand ICE-unix file descriptors
being opened.  I just left my machine on for one night, with the focus
on amarok.  I restarted my machine yesterday for the same reason.
