I just upgraded from the original Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (http://old-
releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04.0/ubuntu-8.04-desktop-i386.iso) to
Ubuntu 8.10 also successfully, with openoffice.org-voikko installed, so
I'd say the problem is Dell-specific somehow. Ooo-voikko and other OOo
extension packages are surely a bit painful (require rebuild for every
OpenOffice.org version), but seemingly not the prime cause for this
problem. Maybe the problem is somewhere in the complexity of having all
language support packages installed...
