Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you right now as my 1330 is out
for repair.  To check:

$ killall gnome-settings-daemon
$ xev

With xev running and gsd dead, press the eject key.  If it registers an
eject key event in the xev terminal window, that means it's a software
key.  If not, it's a hardware key.
