So, firstly: much of the software in the archive has watchfiles. That means that every couple of days or so the Ubuntu External Health Status system checks whether there's a new upstream version, and emails the maintainer. We (generally) don't need to be told about new versions. If there's some delay (a couple of weeks or so should be right), then it's probably worth filing a bug - or jumping on to IRC and asking about it. Do is in Universe, so #ubuntu-motu is the right place to be.
