By the way, I noticed that after I resumed from suspend (the first time in the above testing procedure, the time when it worked) after I unlocked the screen I got the "unsafe device removal" pop-up in the bottom right corner of my screen.
Also, every once in a while, the computer will not wake up from suspend. This happened to me on Tuesday. Usually, it wakes up just fine though. ........ Oh, just looked at the log file... I think you may want /var/log/kern.log instead of kern.log.0.
