Sorry Lim, that is how it works. DRAM requires active refresh to maintain its contents. This is done for system memory in sleep state, but does not appear to happen for the video memory. Without active refresh, DRAM will degrade over a minute or so.
This explains the behavior where the graphics state degrades over time while in sleep. The bug is that Xorg is not reinitializing graphics memory properly. I tried suspending a desktop computer with a Radeon X800, and the exact same bug happened. This isn't even laptop specific.
