It may be worth mentioning that this system was first installed with Ubuntu 
7.04 and has been upgraded (not reinstalled) since then up to 8.10, so it is 
possible that this rule was introduced somewhere in the upgrading. Note however 
that USB automounting was working before the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10, which 
would indicate that this rule came in somewhere with that upgrade...
