I suppose this is more of a cosmetic issue, but the automatic update
checker ought to be disabled by default as really doesn't apply to
packages installed from a repository. Also it may confuse new users
when they see it saying a new version is available when it is not
available from the repository.

change...
$conf['updatecheck'] = 1; to
$conf['updatecheck'] = 0;
