** Description changed:

+ The bug in the xine update triggers a bug in dpkg.
+
+ If you encountered this problem and dpkg is refusing to install/remove
+ package now (sudo dpkg --configure -a no longer working), please try the
+ following and let me know if that fixes the problem:
+
+ 1. wget
https://edge.launchpad.net/%7Emvo/+archive/ppa/+files/dpkg_1.14.20ubuntu6.1_i386.deb
+ 2. dpkg -i dpkg_1.14.20ubuntu6.1_i386.deb
+ - verify that it installs correctly and runs some pending trigger actions
+ - run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" and verify that this works without error
+
+ Please let me know if that fixes the issue for you. The dpkg bug is described
