Dell Dimension 5000 with
PCIE: Graphics card: "ATI  Radeon X300 (RV370) 5B60 (PCIE)

Xserver did not start
startx generated log relevant section (I think) below.

replaced xorg.conf with xorg.conf.failsafe to enable kdm
