@clubsoda: you could try using the daily release at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/ which are the updated images. If alpha4 is broken for you, perhaps it has already been fixed in the update.
If it is still broken, please report that as a bug, and include in the report that you tried both alpha4 and the daily-live (include the date of this one).
