Public bug reported:

When I first installed Ubuntu, I noticed that my mouse stayed on after
my computer shut down. I also noticed that when this happens, my mouse
does not work (no movement, clicks, or anything) until I unplug it and
plug it back in.

Now, after much research, a BIOS update, and much playing with BIOS
settings, I've managed to get the lights on the mouse to turn off when
the computer turns off. But it still doesn't work after a shutdown or
restart without me replugging it. I don't get this effect in Windows,
so that leads me to believe it isn't hardware related. Also of note is
if I shutdown in Ubuntu and boot into Windows, I do get the effect, but
if I shutdown in Windows and boot into Ubuntu I don't.

Looking recently at my log files and various things, I noticed that my
computer seems to be detecting my mouse as a keyboard and then
redetecting it as a mouse. I've spoken with a few people on IRC about
it and have been advised to open a bug report, so here I am. I'll
attach my Xorg.0.log and the results of dmesg both when the mouse isn't
working and when I've unplugged & replugged it.

results of lsb_release -rd:
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

It's a Razer Copperhead mouse.

Let me know if you need any other information.
