Hello,

As I said, I am currently just testing Ubuntu. I am quite impressed,
actually! Even my strange PCMCIA G3 modem works right out of the box.
Very good work, everyone!

Here's what I did.

1) Booted Ubuntu 8.10 (Desktop Edition) from a cd.
2) Made a bootable USB by choosing: System > Administration > Create a USB
startup disk
3) Booted Ubuntu from the USB (Just pressing enter through the bootup menu,
selecting English...)
4) Tested around.
5) Found that the keyboard layout was wrong for me. I have a Finnish keyboard
with letters ÅÄÖ.
6) Went to: System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layout
7) Added Finnish keyboard layout, made it default.
8) I Clicked the "Apply Sytem-Wide ..." button. (<- This is probably what
caused the error!!!)
9) I decided to update the system: System > Administration > Update Manager
10) The error occured while the update.

I would like to test if this error is repeatable, but I have only one
USB-stick, and it now has a compeletly working Ubuntu on it (currently
using) and I do not want to lose that... Sorry.

To have a Finnish keyboard layout with English language menus I re-
installed the USB-stick and chose the Finnish layout _in the bootup
menu_! Everything works now out of the box.

Hope this helps at all.
Thank you for your work!
