It seems to be the same problem I have. I'm using Synaptic update manager to upgrade Ubuntu from 8.04 to 8.10. Synaptic stops the download package process (screen shots attached) warning that cannot found specific packages. My network connection is Ok and I've tryed to repeat the process several times, but without success.
