Michael:

thank You for your help on this matter but I am afraid I corrected the problem 
by reformating my computer with Ubuntu 8.10 again.
If the problem shows itself again I will apply Your fix and let You know if it 
helps.

I had no idea that someone would be responding to this bug so quickly, I
asked for help from the Ubuntu forum but no luck there so I just
reformated, next time I get a bug I will be sure to wait a while before
I go to that extreme.
