Public bug reported:

My computer stopped responding over night. This has happened to me
twice, the first time (roughly) last week, and the second time today.
I've been using Ubuntu (8.10, and 8.04/7.10 before that) on this 64-bit
Dell XPS 410 machine for a while now.

Each time, the computer hangs overnight, and I wake up in the morning to
find it in this frozen state.

The keyboard and mouse don't seem to have any effect. They are still
powered - e.g., the lights on the keyboard remain lit, and the optical
mouse's red light brightens when moved - but things like hitting the Num
Lock does not toggle the corresponding indicator light. (Interestingly
enough, if I disconnect then reconnect the keyboard, Num Lock *does*
toggle the indicator light.)

I also tried pinging and ssh-ing into the machine, but it doesn't
respond to either (I regularly ssh into this machine).

The hard disk busy indicator never seems to light up. I believe that it
usually at east lights up occasionally even when the machine is idle.

My machine does not have e.g. critical system directories mounted on NFS
or other weirdness. It's a standalone desktop box.

Ultimately, I just hold the power button to restart the system.
