I'm using T400 (6475-11G) with Kubuntu x86_64 8.10 and enabled 4.2
updates from

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main

My TP has Intel graphics adapter and I can't say I would ever have had
troubles with adjusting backlight (in 4.0.3, 4.1 nor 4.2). Here's my
dmesg:

Are you sure it's not a configuration problem in your system? Is your
model using the intel or radeon graphics adapter?
