Public bug reported:
When cold booting Jaunty, gdm starts with a blank screen - I can login (by
guesswork), but screen stays blank after login.
The screen also stays blank when switching to a console (ctrl-alt-f1).
booting without splash fixes the problem (not sure if this should be in
usplash instead)
