yes, I'll do it when the eeePC is back home - it is now gone for several
days out of town with my son.

however, some additional points

- due to the nature of the floppy device (usb interface) the floppy
diskette when inserted is mapped to /dev/sde in my case (see attached
file) and the gnome floppy format command comes down with 'unable to
initialize device' error;

- so far I had no success getting the floppy formatted with mke2fs
command either - as said in prev posts the fd0 device in /dev
apparently is not there or not functioning correctly with usb floppy
devices.

- the gnome floppy formatter works flawlessly on intrepid desktop
installations.

- on the eeePC as soon as a formatted (ext2 or fat16) diskette is
inserted in the drive, it is immediately recognized and mounted to
/media/<diskette label> and files can be written to it.

- additionally, I think that

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto/BootFloppy

must be revised to reflect/add situations where usb attached floppy
drives are used.

I created a successful intrepid recovery, bootable floppy, for the eeePC
- VERY SMALL AND ELEGANT - (obviously formatted on a intrepid desktop
install); the grub section howto of url above is completely unworkable
for usb attached floppy drives.

regards,
peter
