Hi Dan,

Sorry it has taken me a while to respond.  I've done what you requested.  I
downloaded Ubuntu 8.10, created and booted from the .iso image disk and ran
gparted.

The results are no different than before - I can only see the first drive
/dev/sda (and it's two partitions).  I cannot see the other drive (which has
the room to install Ubuntu).  I am puzzled as to why Windows can see it but
Ubuntu can't.  What could be THAT different?

Thanks for trying - your follow-up thoughts appreciated.
