Public bug reported:

I am using a Matrox P650 and had great problems getting Ubuntu 6.10
running on it. For the first, live CD does not run - but I think this
problem is already filed at several places.

After much research and great help from the Matrox community, the reason
for the problem was narrowed down to this point.

For one or the other reason, my PC won't start if the "splash" keyword
is in the boot/grub/menu.lst for the kernel to load.

The problem comes up every time an update is made to the kernel - the
latest one is done today. I think this should be avoided in the future -
have a look at bug 70290.
