Public bug reported:

During install of Edgy the user is asked where Grub should be installed,
default "(hd0)", this uses Grub's own weird disk/partition numbering
system. The interface to the user should display and accept the same
disk/partition designations as the rest of the install process (eg. the
earlier partitioning phase). It is totally unreasonable to expect
everybody who installs Ubuntu to be a Grub expert.

My disks are:-
hda - data
hdc - blank for new Ubuntu
hde & hdg - raid mirrored pair with windows 98

During install of Edgy the system said it would install Grub to "(hd0)",
I suspected this was wrong as I wanted Grub on the ubuntu disk (ie.
hdc). So I changed it to "(hd2)", this caused Grub to be installed on
hde (which did not work, and also corrupted my raid mirror). Further
investigation showed that Grub has its own weird disk/partition
numbering system, I now know that I should have used "(hd1)". But I
think my input of "(hd2)" was reasonable, eg. the BIOS boot control
represents hda->hdd as HDD0->HDD3.
