Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-2-generic

I have an IDE Maxtor 80GB hard disk (no SCSI, no SATA, no RAID, just plain
IDE). With Edgy and linux-image-2.6.17-7 I had no problems. When I upgraded to
Feisty, I started having problems. With both linux-image-2.6.19 and
linux-image-2.6.20-2 I have a problem while booting. When I removed options
"quiet" and "splash" from GRUB, I saw that kernel stops while loading some SCSI
drivers. After a while it produced a message that /dev/hda5 (my root drive) was
not found, and it put me in busybox shell.
But when I changed "root=/dev/hda5" to "root=/dev/sda5" in GRUB, booting went
perfectly.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
