I have the same problem (sort of) with intrepid, kernel
2.6.27-11-generic. It freezes for about 10 seconds, then does a
hardreset and goes on without any further problem. I was worried that it
might be a hardware problem, so I even changed the hard drive. The
problem still persists.
For what is worth, my hdd controller is not nVidia:
