i dont think its an issue in intrepid anymore. sounds a bit like the
dbus policy for dhcp client is setup for "root" and not dhcp user.
change that to workaround this issue.

Also it could be bad drivers if thats a wireless connection. One bubble
means it doesnt get a valid association. two bubbles means it doesnt get
an IP.
