After PC's power-on routine it stops with following message:
  Searching for master boot record on IDE-0 ... OK
  Error loading operating system
Seems as GRUB not works.

Which version of Ubuntu

this is Baltix Live-Install CD (Ubuntu 6.06)

Are you able to boot Ubuntu now?


Only from LiveCD. From HD - no.

can you get to the data on

Yes.

My case isn't tragical. I have backup image. But in general it may be a
problem.
