I assume, however, that the "normal" keys on your keyboard, like 0-9 and
A-Z, work fine, or you wouldn't even be paying attention to the multimedia
keys. :-)

The alphanumeric keys on the remote don't work at all.  Therefore your
symptoms are at least somewhat different, and you should file a separate bug
report.  If it turns out to be the same, it is easy to mark the bug report
as a duplicate, but it is hard to disentangle multiple issues from within a
single bug report.
