Well, the issue is kind of resolved. We updated to 8.10 and now the
sound card works fine for applications running from the desktop, but we
are not able to get sound from web sites. But that is another issue.
Thank you for your follow up.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Bug description:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. After my wife updated the computer the sound
card stopped working and would dispay "No volume control GStreamer plugins
and/or devices found." If I boot up in a previous kernel I have sound, but
not if I just let the computer boot up normal. I read that I might have to
reconfigure my sound card, I sure hope not unless someone can walk me through
it. I tried " cat /proc/asound/cards" in the terminal and it just told
me I don't have a soundcard.
