This issue is no longer present on the 8.10, however, my company policy is to only install Long Term Support version of Ubuntu. Anyway, the 8.10 have other problems related to Wifi and Suspend/Resume that make that version unusable. Other Linux distributions all have serious set of issues, but all of them are different issues. For instance, Mint doesn't even reach the point where the first install screen can be seen. Mandriva detects Wifi correctly but compiz (installed by default) was so broken that even clicking on a button "ok" was not working. Wifi was not detected on OpenSuse. The conclusion is that this laptop is definitely not Linux friendly.
