Status in Ubuntu: Fix Released

Bug description:
The installation fails to detect the MB's on-board network controller (RTL
8110SC). I have tried both 7.10 and 8.04 LTS. Both were clean installation.

The system consists of:

Gigabyte GM-MA69GM-S2H MB (with on-board ATI VGA & NW controller)
1GB of RAM
AMD AM2 BE2350 (energy efficient) CPU
Toshiba 2.5" SATA h/d
External (USB) DVD - disconnected

Incidentally, XP (!) detected the NW controller and worked without any
issues so the problem is not MB hw related.

"sudo ethtool eth0" returns...

Settings for eth0:
Cannot get device settings: No such device
Cannot get wake-on-lan settings: No such device
Cannot get message level: No such device
Cannot get link status: No such device
No data available

I changed the entries in /etc/network/interfaces to....

auto eth0
iface etho inet dhcp

"sudo ethtool eth0" returned the same output as above.
