Had the same problem, same fix. Yes, it is a bug, but in the settings, not in any of the the programs.
What happens is that Hugin installs fine in Ubuntu Intrepid, with all the dependencies, but the autopano-executable setting is wrong. It should indeed be 'autopano-complete' (which is some sort of script as far as I can see), instead of just 'autopano'. This is an eyesore as it means that Hugin does not work out-of-the-box. The fix is easy but not obvious, which might turn many people off.
