Yes, the bug is still present with Ubuntu 8.10 and Nautilus 2.24.1 /
gvfs 1.0.2-0ubuntu2, and it's easy to reproduce. If you have a ssh
access to a server with a ftpd (Debian's proftpd 1.3.1-17 in my case),
you can try these commands :

mkdir " test1" <= with a space at the beginning
mkdir -p "test2/.directory with a dot" <= with a dot at the beginning

Now, connect you to the ftpd with nautilus and try to delete these two
directories. You will obtain errors in both cases, while that worked
well with gnome-vfs.
