Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and
model). The machine actually did not suspend-to-ram but suspend-to-disk
(hibernate), we can tell this as we record the suspend type on the way
down. I would have expected the machine to be off after this and then
to turn on normally. As long as you have the same kernel when you came
back up it should have resumed from it.
Could you test hibernate under normal conditions and see if that works
ok?
