Binary package hint: xorg
Since upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, the display server fails to start
when the glx module is enabled using xinerama with two nvidia cards and
three monitors.
When the display server attempts to start, all of my screens switch
themselves on and off a number or times, and the "num Lock" light on my
keyboard flickers in sync with the monitors switching. After a while, I
get the following message:
"The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds, it
is likely that something bad is going on.
Waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display :0."
When preventing the glx module from loading within xorg.conf, the
display server starts fine, though performance has degraded with this
module disabled in comparison with my previous 8.04 install.
I'm using the same driver that I was using in 8.04, Nvidia 173
restricted. The two cards are a GeForce FX 5200 (NV34) and a GeForce
7300 LE (G72). I'm using the 8.10 release of Ubuntu and the
1:7.4~5ubuntu3 release of xorg.
The Xorg log reports the following, at the end of the file:

I have attached an archive containing my Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf and the
relevant output of lspci.
