Please reconsider on this bases:

First, why replace at all?  Whether it's formatted correctly ought not
to matter.  Remember, we're just  trying to add an option line.

Second, troubleshooting the problem is not trivial.  It took me 2 days
of investigation to figure out why my xserver was giving poor
performance.  After much investigation, I finally found direct rendering
was off and it was running XAA on my radeon driver.  But, then it took
another day to find out the xorg.conf had been replaced.

Third, I worry about less experienced users just giving up on linux.
