Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

I used to run 'sudo apt-get update' and then wait for the update-notifier to
show an icon and a notify whenever a new update was availabe.
Now nothing happens, I have to manually check with 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'.
Are you sure this is the correct/intended behaviour?
