Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox
Using atop on a 64 bit Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) running Rhythmbox while it plays an on-line stream (128Kbps MP3) shows that it consumes on average 60% of the CPU. There is no file scanning going on as I have no local music. I do have a DAAP share. As a comparison, when I use mplayer to play the exact same on-line stream (http://scds20.iad.llnw.net/citadelcc_WMAL_AM?MSWMExt=.asf) it uses less then 1% of the CPU. The computer is a Dual Core Extreme with lots of horsepower.
