OK happy to help out, and no, the Edgy server install freezes after the menu also when it gets to a dark greyish screen.
What can I help with in terms of diagnostics? I've flashed the BIOS with the latest Tyan drivers - its a Tyan K8SD Pro, with dual Opteron. i386 is working fine for the time being.
