I have the same issue I have been googling all around and found some hints about gtkrc being the culprit and how to configure certain font settings in gtkrc. Unfortunately none of those hints helped. I'd really appreciate if someone would look into this because other well-used gtk1 apps like xmms are (at least partially) affected as well.
