Hi.

Yes, of course libxine1-ffmpeg is installed. Up until a few months ago,
xine was able to view mpeg files without problem. Something changed
recently that broke it for mpg files.

Attached is a short mpg that plays fine with vlc or mplayer. If I try to
play it with xine, it crashes X -- black screen. I cannot restart kdm after
the crash -- a reboot is necessary.

test.mpg was produced by capturing the mpg stream produced by vlc while
playing a movie dvd.

System: fully patched Kubuntu 8.10, KDE 4.2, X86 32-bit. libdvdread3,
libdvdnav4, libdvdcss2, libexine1-misc-plugins, etc. all installed.

On another of my systems xine also cannot play mpeg files, but at least it
does not crash X in the process. This system is Kubuntu 8.04, KDE 3.5,
X86_64, fully patched.

Tchuss,

--Doug
