Tools->Language->Thesaurus works for me, I don't know where the other
place that you mentioned is located.
You may want to make sure you have the thesaurus for your language
installed. You can verify this under Tools->Options->Language
Settings->Writing Aids->OpenOffice.org New Thesaurus->Edit Then check
your language to verify it shows as installed for it.
