Hi,
It's interesting that it works on an upgrade but not from the install CD - so
I guess it's possible it's been fixed in one of the Intrepid fixes that happend
after the CD - or it's an installer problem. Your machine is a slightly rarer
machine I guess - I've not seen that IDE controller before; if you boot the
8.10 install CD and get the dmesg from that it might help?
Even though you've found a work around it would be good if you can try
it from the live cd so that it can get fixed for others.
